Drivers of soil biophysical processes along an elevational gradient at Pico de Orizaba volcano, Mexico

Abstract Elevational gradients are characterized by major shifts in environmental conditions, reflected through changes climatic and soil variables. These strongly impact the composition, community structure specific functional traits of vegetation. Vegetation, turn, influences properties litter input, root growth release exudates, thereby influencing microbial faunal communities. Here, we report briefly describe data underlying bedrock physical chemical properties, variables, plant composition species abundance, diversity macro mesofaunal abundance diversity. Data provided for 6 elevations (3400–4600 m) ranging from pine forest to alpine prairie. We focused on biophysical beneath several keystone or community-structuring with different forms: (1) tree ( Pinus hartwegii Lindl.); shrub Oxylobus arbutifolius (Kunth) A. Gray Chionolaena lavandulifolia (Kunth ex Kunth) Benth. & Hook.f. B.D.Jacks.); (3) herb Lupinus montanus Kunth Senecio roseus Sch.Bip.). useful understanding how abiotic conditions vegetation communities along an elevational gradient affect ecosystem services such as water infiltration, aggregation carbon (C) storage, modify biodiversity. The collected also provide information understand vegetation, macro- meso-fauna, bacterial may shift under a climate change scenario.
